The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development is inviting to the International Congress "The Heritage of the City - the Future of Europe, New Opportunities for Integrated Urban Development" on December 8-9 2011 in Berlin.

 

The history of building heritage of European cities is experiencing a growing appreciation. Memorials, monuments and historical ensembles of the urban landscape are increasingly recognized and identified as a potential of integrated urban development. The appreciation on the one hand, faces a great need of assistance with the preservation and renovation of the historic heritage, on the other hand. This cleavage requires integrated thinking and approaches.

 

Reflections on cities, conservation and culture combined with national and international exemplary projects shall stimulate a European discourse on architectural heritage. Germany can draw on extensive experience from the Urban Architectural Heritage Conservation Programme and from the National Investment Programme for UNESCO World Heritage sites.

 

European and national actors, and the existing networks are invited for a joint exchange, to discuss ideas, approaches and options for use in maintaining and developing the historical heritage of the European city of tomorrow.
